What Should You Learn First on Piano?

Your first month should build orientation, rhythm, comfortable technique, a few chords, simple melodies and a practice habit. Avoid trying to master every topic at once.

Keyboard orientation

Find note names quickly and understand the repeating layout.

Pulse and rhythm

Clap and count basic quarter, half and eighth-note patterns before making the hands do everything.

A few chords and melodies

Use simple triads for harmony and short melodies for finger control. Both skills make practice sound musical.

A repeatable routine

Decide when you will practice and what a normal session contains. A clear habit is more important than a perfect curriculum.
